Exploring the World of Reptile Welfare

Recently, our team had the privilege of visiting the National Centre of Reptile Welfare (NCRW) in Tonbridge. Our mission was to explore the intricacies of reptile identification and care, building a stronger partnership to enhance the welfare of these fascinating creatures.

Unveiling the Process of Reptile Care

At the NCRW, we delved deep into the process of how reptiles are rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed. We learned that the centre has already taken in over 2,000 animals this year alone, showcasing their remarkable commitment to reptile welfare. With a vast network of rescue connections across the country, NCRW serves as a crucial hub, providing essential drop-off points for reptiles in need.

The Role of Microchipping in Reptile Identification

One of the key insights from our visit was the importance of microchipping in reptile identification. Microchips provide vital information, including the reptile's last keeper, their age and gender. This data is invaluable for the NCRW team as it guides them in providing reunification, appropriate care and nutrition.

It’s important to note that only a licensed veterinarian can perform microchipping on reptiles.

A Hands-On Experience

During our visit, we had the unique opportunity to meet and handle various reptiles, including tortoises, snakes, bearded dragons, and geckos. Each of these creatures has a unique story, and the dedication of the NCRW staff in providing individualised care is truly inspiring.

Why Rescue a Reptile from NCRW?

Choosing to rescue a reptile from NCRW rather than purchasing one from a shop makes a profound difference. By adopting from NCRW, you provide a deserving reptile with a second chance at a fulfilling life. These animals require loving homes to thrive. NCRW ensures that all reptiles are thoroughly assessed and rehabilitated, guaranteeing they are healthy and well-prepared for their new homes. This approach supports the welfare of the reptiles and reduces the demand for the commercial trade of animals, ultimately helping to combat the exploitation of reptiles in pet shops.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We want to extend a big thank you to Chris and the entire NCRW team for their hospitality and the incredible work they do every day. Their passion and expertise are making a tangible difference in the lives of countless reptiles, ensuring they receive the care and respect they deserve.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, PeddyMark and Animal Tracker are excited to collaborate more closely with the NCRW. Our shared goal is to improve the welfare and treatment of reptiles nationwide. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of these remarkable animals.
