What is a checksum?

Microchip numbers are 15 digits long.  To avoid mistakes when entering this number in Animal Tracker and registering the microchip we have added a checksum.  This is an alpha numeric code and will need to be entered at the same time as the microchip number.  If both the checksum and microchip number are correct then the registration can go ahead.  If not then the user will be asked to re-enter the microchip number.  The checksum and microchip number can be found on microchip label. 

If you do not have the checksum you can still add your microchip, but you will be asked to enter the microchip number twice to confirm that it is correct.
